As a way to keep score for the “Slug Bug Game”, I made a score counting device (the wood one). I later upgraded it to be much smaller, have a high resolution screen and tactile switches, utilize an ESP-32 and run for days on a single charge of the built in battery.  I have had this smaller version working non-stop in my car for years without any issues.
